collection / fall-winter 2012
The spirit of the time and the ghosts of the past that come to life through new tales, leaving their mark on present after thinning as dense smoke, characterize the fall-winter 2012-13 Arnoldo][Battois collection.
The story begins in an inhabited Venetian palace: velvets and silks of the tapestry are worn by time and faded by light, oxidized mirrors reflect a distorted reality, the leather of the chairs has almost lost its golden decorations, the dust covers oriental lacquers, memory of travels, precious essences of woodwork and furniture are opacified by the patina of history.
A dense fog creeps slowly through the broken glass of the windows and the cracks of the doors, enveloping everything and bringing life. Materials, shapes, decorations come alive, they reveal the splendour of the past and merge together in new combinations.
Shiny black shaggy fur show the image of exotic Birds of Paradise, waxed wooden friezes recline on soft red ochre nubuck with details in patent leather, olive cortex calf shapes contrast with neutral tones smooth surfaces, waxed figures illuminate graphite nubuck surfaces: different ways to interpret flat bags with pure geometry found in old trunks.
The doctor bag and the “Elefante” are reinterpreted and declined different solutions: from the classic cognac vegetable-tanned calf, to the shaggy fur combined with calves and patent-leather in the tones of iron, up to two-tone pomegranate lacquer python.
The story ends with the pleated bags always present in Arnoldo][Battois collections: Elefante, Falena and Colibrì are made in clay plongè nappa with gold accessories.
